The Pet Food Institute (PFI), whose members make the vast majority of dog and cat food and treats in the United States, congratulates Jamieson Greer on his confirmation by the U.S. Senate as the new U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).

“PFI congratulates Ambassador Greer and looks forward to working with him as U.S. pet food makers work to further expand the presence of U.S. pet food in key foreign markets,” said Dana Brooks, PFI’s president and CEO. “With U.S. pet food exports reaching nearly $2.5 billion in 2024, Ambassador Greer’s appointment comes at a pivotal time of continued global expansion of the U.S. pet food industry.”

After exponential growth in pet food exports since 2020, U.S. dog and cat food products are now shipped to over 90 countries. As pets continue to be seen as valued members of families and pet owners seek to provide their pets with complete and balanced commercial pet food, significant opportunities continue to grow in international markets. PFI supports and engages with both U.S. and foreign governments to secure, maintain, and expand access to critical markets worldwide.
