WASHINGTON – The Pet Food Institute, whose members make 98 percent of U.S. pet food and treat products, congratulates Dr. Stephen Hahn on his confirmation by the U.S. Senate today as Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dana Brooks, president and CEO of PFI, noted that the association looks forward to working with the agency’s new leadership on ways to advance a science-based understanding of food safety as the agency carries out compliance and enforcement activities under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
“PFI members, who help make food for the two-thirds of U.S. households with a pet, are committed to product safety and working with FDA in this regard,” said Brooks. “We welcome the speedy confirmation of Dr. Hahn and look forward to further promoting food safety within a predictable regulatory environment.”
